I edited together all the footage of Bugs Bunny in femme from 1939—2003, an archive that Karen Anne Taylor assembled painstakingly and which I came upon in spring 2022. The obsession with femme bugs began after watching Netflix film Disclosure (2020), an unprecedented, eye-opening look at transgender depictions in film and television, revealing how Hollywood simultaneously reflects and manufactures our deepest anxieties about gender. In the film, femme Bugs is cited as one of the first representations of trans femininity in mass media in which the character is loved and embraced for, not despite, her femme identity.
