I designed and built this sign in fall 2022 in response to a prompt given to me by Eric Geschke: create a sculpture that responds to this classroom (at PSU) as a site. I had been up late the night before sitting with a lot of anxiety listening to Tara Brach and transcribing affirmations that she offered to help myself calm down. The phrase “You Belong Here” felt especially calming. I realized that I could respond to the exit sign in the classroom with a word art sculpture that says instead “You Belong Here”, and that takes cues from the design of the exit sign. This sculpture will be installed at Lloyd Center Mall as part of CETI Institute’s Fourth Annual Constellations show, in February 2024: Technoluminescence.
