The Peanut Gallery: Meat Form

The Peanut Gallery was a tiny 8 ft by 5 ft space in the corner of a lobby in design studio Mother New York, on 11th Avenue and 44th Street in New York City. Giian co-founded the space with designer Damien Saatdjian in 2012.

The gallery had rules of engagement like footsteps on the floor to guide where you walked, encouragement to circle in and out of the gallery repeatedly, tipping your hat when entering, one person allowed at a time, etc.

They created The Peanut Gallery for art lovers who had become disillusioned by the blank, industrial spaces typical of so many New York galleries.

For their third exhibition, The Peanut Gallery presented ‘Meat Form’ by Brion Nuda Rosch; a San Francisco based artist whose collages and sculptures humorously challenge our perception of commonplace objects and icons. In this instance, Brion turned his attention to meat, showcasing jarring images of cooked animal flesh.

They displayed his images in the tiny gallery space, as well as on an expansive billboard at 44th and 11th Avenue in New York City just a few blocks north of the Javits Center.
