Sustainability From Childhood
'Sustainability From Childhood' is a polyvocal art project initiated by Gilian Rappaport that researches the relationship between our connection to nature as children, and our dedication to sustainability and land. Creative collective In Creative Co has commissioned environmental strategists, mechanical engineers, and herbalists and foragers to speak their truth to power, and together create a collection of imaginative and practical proposals for the action that we need in this moment of climate catastrophe.
By bringing together multiple voices across areas of expertise, 'Sustainability From Childhood' replaces the singular authority model plaguing our histories with a multiplicity of voices, asking, "What messages about climate possibility do we need to share with our communities now?". Today, we are all faced with the disastrous impacts of global capitalism and colonialism, as well as increasingly exaggerated social and economic disparities, leading to this moment of climate crisis and possibility. In light of all this, this project asks: What does the future look like when we develop relationships with the land as children? What modes of climate innovation and possibility become possible?
